Counseling for Couples
“Make your relationship a place you’d like to be.”
Let’s face it, romantic relationships are often at the center of our world. They can bring us great joy, and also bring us great disappointment. The average couple waits six years being unhappy before getting relationship help. That’s a long time!
The most common complaint among long-term partners is “lack of communication.” No surprise there! Couples also struggle with other issues such as: general disagreements, battle for control, loneliness, parenting issues, boredom, arguments over finances, and how often to have sex.
“Marriage is not just about communication; it is also remembering to take out the trash.”
Relationship counseling gets many couples back on track. But not all. Below is a list of the most common areas that get couples into trouble. If you recognize any of these relationship “red flags,” it’s time to get down to work.
RELATIONSHIP KILLERS:
Unspoken expectations
Avoidance
Needing to be right
“Be more like me” mentality
Reactivity and impatience
Withholding truth and love
Ignoring bids for affection
Micro-managing and control
Demands rather than invitations
Betrayals of trust
Keeping score
Withholding loving behavior
My goal is to provide you with a safe place to begin talking about the “hard stuff,” the things you may have been avoiding or arguing about for too long. This may sound scary, and it can feel this way, but we will move at your pace and start repairing. Let’s work together to recapture what once was.
